The Heart of Tony's Tribe

President

Nina Albelo-Garcia is the president of Tony's Tribe, co-founder and Tony's sister. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health, specializing in youth and community wellness. She is also a crisis-certified counselor and passionate mental-health advocate dedicated to equipping others with tools for resilience and self-understanding. As a speaker and youth advocate, Nina shares her journey of turning grief into purpose — using her lived experience to spark conversations about mental wellness, suicide prevention, and emotional healing. She leads workshops, facilitates trainings, and develops community events that empower others to break stigma and seek help without shame.

Vice President

Judy Albelo is a proud Hispanic advocate, certified NAMI Peer Facilitator, and founder of Breaking the Barriers — Tony's Tribe, a nonprofit created in memory of her son, Anthony "Tony" Garcia. After losing Tony to suicide, Judy transformed her grief into a mission of advocacy and hope. She leads peer-support groups and facilitates culturally informed workshops that open conversations about mental health, grief, and healing — especially within Hispanic and Latino communities. As a speaker, she shares her story to break stigma, inspire resilience and remind others that no one walks this journey alone.

"We believe our pain became our purpose and our purpose is to ensure no one faces theirs alone."
